The first 100% ecological ski resort in Europe is in Andorra

Mini hydroelectric power plant in Arcalís

ENGITEC, has designed and carried out the Works Department of the mini hydroelectric power plant in Arcalis, with the collaboration of the French hydroelectric company SHEM.

Opened in December of 2017, and located at the foot of the ski slopes of Arcalis station, it is capable of producing 100% of the energy necessary for its operation, including a hundred snow cannons and ten of ski lifts.

This makes it the first ski station in Europe that is energetically self-sufficient.

The station captures the water of an existing reservoir, and through a forced underground pipe of 1430 meters in length, it takes it to the turbine of the power station located near the bridge of El Castellar, 210 meters further down, generating a power maximum of 400kW.

The project has been carried out and executed with criteria of maximum respect to the environment and with a minimal environmental impact, having restored the landscape to its original state.
